Self-care when you in a storm of abuse is important. Finding your joy is part of self-care.

Joy is usually the last thing you’re thinking of when you’re in the middle of a storm. But it is the key to making it out of the storm. Jesus kept His joy in the storm with the knowledge He would be fulfilling His duty to His father and loving us more than we could ever truly imagine.  We should follow Jesus’ lead and use joy as a weapon against the enemy.  It confuses the enemy when we are joyful when our lives are falling apart. Confusion shines light on lies and requires you to really examine the situation you’re in and discern the difference between a trick of the enemy and God’s purpose for your life. God is the God of the trick shot; in my opinion. He can turn any situation into a show with one impossible thing after another happening. After that show of His great power it would be impossible to not have faith in His abilities. I asked God when I was a little girl to use me in His show of power, grace and forgiveness.  He has taken one impossible situation after another and had me walk out of it with grace and strength so apparent that others couldn’t help but let me know and I gave all glory to God. “Wow… how’d I walk away from that?! Thanks God!!”

Keeping an unbreakable spirit is easy when you know God is the one in control and there is nothing for you to do but relax and follow instructions from Him. You’ll know when it’s Him talking to you because you won’t feel unrest about your decisions. You will, however, always have opposition to it. The enemy doesn’t like it when the will of God is carried out; so, he will make sure the servants of God have a roadblock at every turn. Here’s the thing though, the enemy holds no power on Earth, so everything he throws at us is an invisible obstacle. Plow through with joy knowing you are making the enemy help you show off in the name of God.

How can we apply Jesus’ bold joy to our lives? The term used now is called “self-care” but really, it’s being just a little selfish with your time and doing what fills your heart with joy. What that looks like for me is taking a shower and just listening to music while I let my mind wonder in any direction it wants. Another thing I do as self-care is sing and dance while I do my chores around the house. A clean home keeps me happy but I’m not about to pay someone for something I can do myself. So, I have fun with my housework. All these choices bring me joy. Finally, when my house is clean, I can sit and meditate or read to continue to care for myself. Your selfishness (not a bad word) can also serve others (see not a bad word). Think of it like the airplane saying; apply your mask before you help others to apply theirs. You can’t care for others unless you are in a good position yourself. Position yourself and everyone else will be able to be cared for by you and you will have fulfilled God’s calling; love one another.
